Holy shit, 22 tracks in 15 minutes!? Yep, count 'em. 22 quick tracks of pissed off straightedge hardcore that doesn't really sound like straightedge hardcore. There's a major range of tempos with a lot of slower riffs and the recording is totally different from any of this style of hardcore that I've heard, which really does give it a different end result. The vocals are just insane shouts and they sound fucking great, while the guitars are sort of lightly distorted and thick with a major bass guitar presence in the mix and totally natural drum tones. It's basically fast hardcore with an early 80's sort of flare rather than a youth crew sort of sound, but the slower riffs give it a unique edge and keep it from coming off as generic. I love that, too. It's so cool to hear a band write songs that run less than 30 seconds without having them focus on insane speeds all the time, it makes the listen far more entertaining and less one-sided, even though it's still really consistent. I do find myself wishing that the guitar tone was a little more in your face, but everything else sounds perfect and should stay as it is. I think that's the main thing holding this back from being a more powerful record, because the vocals are dead on fucking amazing. I like slower tracks like "I Wish I Was Worse" though, as things get slightly more rocked out and let the basslines drive everything. And "Crazy" is just a perfect hardcore song - moderately paced, heavy with no metal, furious vocals... two thumbs up. The layout looks awesome not only because it's printed in vibrant color on matte paper, but because the paintings look great and are totally different aesthetically from most of what you'll see used by bands of this nature. The lyrics are bitter and sarcastic and deal with skating, the edge, people who suck, religion being dumb, and other fun topics. I like it. It's not the most memorable thing I've ever heard or whatever, but they're definitely pushing for something that stays true to what it is without being rehashed, and I respect that a great deal.
