This CD single contains one new song from the band's forthcoming full-length, one song from their previous full-length on Chunksaah Records, and two songs exclusive to this EP. I know absolutely nothing about this band, but I did find out that they've been around since the early 90's. They play a somewhat rugged form of poppy punk that reminds me a little bit of a less polished Rancid meets something like the more aggressive moments of the Foo Fighters or whatever. Maybe throw in a little of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones sans horns as well. There are definitely some ska riffs going on in "Tighty Whitey". The production is okay but it's not really doing them justice. I hate to say it, but these guys need a nice clean sound to really do some damage. Without a punchy, full sound these songs fall a little bit flat. I could see them being pretty catchy and memorable under different circumstances, but the mix is often a little muffled and the guitar tone is really sort of weird. I don't know... this isn't "punk" enough for the band to be worried about whether or not they have a super crisp sound, so I say go for the big budget recording and fuck it. It would make these songs come across 10 times as strong as they do right now. It's a CD single in a slim jewel case, so the layout is nothing to write home about. There's an altered band photo on the cover in black and green with some bright pink splotches, and inside there's some text information over high contrast black/green images of a cityscape. The CD itself has a cool little icon printed on the face with portions of the front cover in the middle, and then the outer edges are clear, which is the coolest thing about the whole package. No lyrics or anything of that nature are inside. I can't say I'm all that into this. I'm not sure... "I am Nothing" is pretty damn catchy, but something about this stuff doesn't feel all that sincere to me. It's just not clicking.
