This is a limited edition CD re-release of the "Enrielle" cassette from 1995 with some additional unreleased tracks added in throughout. I'm not sure if the songs come from the same original recording sessions or not, but the unreleased material fits in perfectly with the cassette tracks as far as recording quality and general atmosphere. The overall style here is dark ambient in the form of rather lengthy compositions running from six to 12+ minutes. Many of the pieces are hypnotic in their use of repetition (notably "Stole Figure"), and the title track takes things to an excellent level of consistency with constant low level drones and hums with bright, reverberated ringing sounds that seem to have been potentially generated by stringed instruments. "Sleep" is the only track that seems out of place, with its overly looped backdrop that's a bit busier and more percussive than anything else. It's still a simple track, but it lacks the flowing tone and atmosphere of the other seven displays. The recordings are nice and smooth, with a great level of depth and suitable detail. If I could change anything I think I would make things somehow louder, as certain segments of the disc are almost inaudible so a lot of volume adjustments have to be made throughout the listen, which can get frustrating. The CD comes in a large sleeve with some black, white, and red artwork depicting statues. It looks alright, but the smaller sleeve inside that houses the disc behind a black and white image of a crucifixion is far more interesting and effective. I like this a lot, really. It's a little too long, I definitely think it would be far stronger without "Sleep" or "Intermission" - 22 minutes of material that serves little purpose in the grand scheme of things... but there are some super moments herein that are certainly worth looking into. I'm curious to hear other work from this project already.
