Come on... someone sent this to me as a joke, right? I was worried as soon as I looked at it. The layout's alright, I guess. It's mostly high contrast images of the duo with a black and white photo on the cover. Inside are credits and some text about the band that sort of seems to sarcastically state that they're only influenced by the 60's and jokes about them "redrawing the outline for both musical artistry and recording technique" (I hope it's a joke, anyway). It's a little bland, but whatever. But then, maybe it's not a joke, because this does sound like 60's rock 'n' roll. Like The Beatles or some shit like that. Sometimes peppy and happy, sometimes a little softer and darker... But hey, newsflash: I fucking hate The Beatles and I fucking hate this kind of music in general. So what am I supposed to say about this? I'll be fair and say that these two dudes are competent songwriters. There are some catchy little choruses in here, and they can play their instruments well enough. The lo-fi styled recording could be done in a slightly more efficient but still D.I.Y. manner that would keep the levels a little more even without sometimes breaking into peak distortion, but whatever. It sounds pretty good for what it is, and they applaud themselves for dating their sound and doing it themselves, so more power to 'em. "Don't Say Good-Bye" sounds ever so slightly more contemporary to me, or at least it has something to it that makes it a better song, but a lot of this stuff is just, you know... knockoffs of The Beatles and shit that's a little dirtier or bluesier or whatever. And something about "What She Does" says, "Led Zeppelin," to me. Another band I fucking hate. Sue me. I'm about done with this one. If you're a hipster dude or you just really love early rock 'n' roll from before it really started to actually rock, maybe you'll dig this. It's not for me, though.
