Hmmm... five tracks of strange rock from The Netherlands. I don't know how I feel about this. Some of the tracks like "The Liver Machine" and "Forests I Walk" are really leaning towards flat out rock 'n' roll, similar to a lot of those hot shit bands that are tearing up MTV right now, but not as annoying or fabricated - which is nice, but still not the most enjoyable thing to listen to, you know what I mean? "Uomo Morto" is far different, using a lot of sustained notes and a loose 70's sort of vibe with some vaguely psychedelic textures happening... and I like that. That's a great song. "Waitin'" is strangely upbeat and straightforward with bright clean guitars and a driving bassline with more pronounced singing. It definitely has an air of quirkiness about it, but it's still pretty graspable; whereas "Kometa" is similar in its use of calmer guitars and singing, but is even more straightforward - darker and yet somehow more memorable and interesting to me. The production is really good for a demo. Sometimes the singing can be annoying (especially when delay effects are used), but the mix is really strong as far as the instruments go. The drums sound good, the bass tone is awesome, and a lot of the guitar tones are really nice. Some of the more abrasive effects like those in "The Liver Machine" are too loud and grating, but the average use of light distortion and such is really good. The disc is housed in a plastic sleeve with a onecard insert (full color on the front, black and white on the back) that has a brightly colored photo of the band on the cover and a thanks list and other minimal text on the back. It looks okay, though perhaps slightly plain as far as typefaces go. This is a strange demo. Two of the songs I really like, one I think is alright, and two I think are terrible. I'm not totally clear on what the band was going for here, but my hope would be that they stray from the rock and head in the more creative direction of their other influences instead.
