Here on one massively long disc this trio of experimentalists unloads five epic untitled tracks full of unusual instrumental atmospheric prog rock via drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, and samplers. Some passages are solely driven by synths and various sound textures with no recognizable sign of drums, bass, or guitars; other areas are driven largely by the rhythm section as guitars careen into flowing sustained notes along with the keyboards; and then there are some portions that are more traditionally rocked out with some slightly odd time signatures and a heavy sort of 70's vibe (but this honestly sounds better than most of the crap that was done in the 70's if you ask me). There are even some excellent uses of distorted bass and odd ethnic flavored guitar riffs in the third track. The fifth and final piece runs a stunning 49+ minutes, doubling the combined length of the other four songs! The recording is pretty warm, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if these racks were recorded live. The mix is really full and everything sounds close in together, nothing jumps out, and there's a certain effective ruggedness to some degree. I think the sound works very well for what they're doing. I would like to hear a bit more clarity in the percussion, but that's really my only minor gripe. The layout is very minimal, using little text. There's no text on the outside of the booklet at all, just a faintly colored painting that may or may not represent some sort of landscape. It's really just patches of color, but I suppose it could be clouds, or water, or something... it's hard to say. There's no tracklist, though. Inside is a rather abstract black and white illustration with lineup and recording information, and that's about it. I can't say that this is something I would listen to on a regular basis by any means, and to me it's sort of like background music as opposed to something truly engaging that makes you want to listen closely, but it's quality work all the same. Those more interested in jammed out sort of improvisational compositions should likely appreciate this.
