Ehhh... I don't know about this one. Right off the bat the recording is on the muddy side and that lessens the blow of the music, and secondly the singing grates on my nerves like there's no tomorrow. Yep... it's emo time. When this stuff is done right I'm all over it like white on rice, and musically this is a decent EP, but I can't handle the nasally smirk of the singing... it's just snotty and obnoxious. It's not awful, but I can't really enjoy the music as a result of the vocals. The singing in "You Should Know" is a bit more toned down and tolerable, and that's how they should keep it. The music is just typical emo/indie stuff with a little heaviness and a poppy sort of edge that makes them sound sort of similar to some of the bands of this ilk that have been blowing up as of late. The production sounds like a good demo to me. It's not bad, and the mix is pretty strong, but it's not bright enough. There's a cloudy density going on and the drums have a certain distance to them, etc. That does make the vocals jump out front, so perhaps a super polished sound would make the vocals piece in with the instruments better? Who knows? I really like the way this thing looks. It's simple and sort of "artsy" in a design sense, but it works. There are some blocky photos, the text is all arranged in blocks, etc. It all looks nice and clean, though. The lyrics are on the backside of the insert and deal with your usual personal issues. Nothing unusual. "Then you'll figure out that you're better off lonely and you'll call me up I'll say what do you owe me but you've changed your mind by now I don't know what you're about..." I've heard worse, but this is nothing special. If they keep at it they could probably pull it off, though.
