13 minutes of love and doom indeed. Seven short tracks that combine quirky electronic noise and abrasive, angular indie rock. The guitars are very lightly distorted and pretty dry/jangly, the drums are straightforward but rhythmically stuttered along with the choppy musical arrangements, and the electronics range from subtly musical keyboards to straight bursts of noise or samples. The vocals are basically odd layers of male/female shouting/singing with a somewhat irritating demeanor. It's all quite frantic and somewhat annoying, to be honest. It's okay, I can sit through it, but I'm certainly not into it, and it's not a pleasing listen per se. They've been compared to the likes of Sonic Youth, Arab on Radar, Clikitat Ikatowi, and Unwound, among others, and I've never been a big fan of any of those bands, so... perhaps what similarities exist point to why I'm not a big fan of this either? The recording is at least good. The mix is very cohesive and full, the tones are dry and have ruggedness involved but fit what they're doing nicely and do come off as showing that time and effort went into it, etc. The CD, which is one of those deals with the clear edges, comes in a simple cardboard slipcase with odd artwork that I can't make much sense of. It looks okay aside from one blurry photo of an animal that sort of lends an unusually cheesy side to things, but I'm not sure what they were going for there. The tracklist and credits are on the back, and that's it. This just isn't my thing. Like I said, I can sit through its, and I can give them credit for pulling it off to the degree that it gives off an impression of competence behind it, but... I'm not digging it.
