Here's some abrasive metalcore that reminds me of the mighty Jasta 14 (mostly due to the distorted vocal screams and the energy of the writing). This is really not very typical. There's some melody and note-based metal riffing alongside straight chord progressions, but the sound definitely has more of an early 90's ring to it. "I Fucking Hate Today" is ironically more upbeat, but not in a poppy way, it's still dark but the speed and the arrangements have more kick. "The Village Bicycle" is slower and bleaker with a heavier emphasis on rhythm, even throwing in a clean break (granted it's too dry). "Save a Book: Smash a TV" even breaks off a total thrash riff from out of nowhere!? The recording isn't bad for a budget of zero and six hours worth of time. The drums are natural and not overpowering, the bass is there, and guitars and vocals tend to dominate. There are areas where the guitars seem slightly out of tune, but somehow it works in favor of their strange dissonance. Of course there's room for improvement, but this definitely does the job for now. My only complaint is that the output volume is obscenely quiet, I had to double the normal volume settings on my stereo, and having to crank the volume that loud sort of kills some of the power. The layout is a simple black and white sleeve with minimal text/imagery. One small xeroxed insert contains lyrics and such, and there's a sticker with the band name written under a boxcutter too. Most of the lyrics deal with socio-political issues - somewhat typical, but not bad. "Can't trade life for more machines. Taking time for expendable dreams. Keep hope down to sell more flags. Buying the world with the blood of the working man..." This is a damn good record. I really hope to hear more from this band. Even though they're still rough around the edges, they're already making some use of their potential.
