Review: Short Circuits “The Rebel Sound of Hate & Fucking” 7”

Here's some very rhythmic electronic noise from Norway with lots of quick melodies and glitchiness to it, so that it sounds musical while still retaining an air of being improvisational or loose on some level. It's all fairly repetitive but does change up enough to remain interesting. There are some dance-like beats but the crispy wisps of distortion change that vibe significantly, and side B's "Where the Pieces Are Right" has some sparser moments even though it's overall quite similar to the title track in structure and style: Glitchy melodies and rhythmic elements with a unique sense of repetitive movement. The recording is both clean and gritty, so it's clear but has a subtly raw bite, and I appreciate that. The sleeve has some interesting art that actually uses nudity tastefully (especially in relation to the record's title), with the record being pressed on extremely heavy, quality vinyl. Some of the text on the back cover is rather intriguing as well: "The stereo fumbles its way through the night with dim lights. Its mumbling is a stray cat in a blind alley of sound, searching for the center of you..." It's hard to get a true idea of what this project has to offer from a brief EP like this, but I find this to be some nice work, and I'd be curious to hear more.
