Not into it. This is straight rock 'n' roll coming from a hardcore label, which surprised me. I figured it would be rocked out based on the look and the song titles, but this is all rock. And that's fine, but I'm not that into these songs, for a few reasons. First off, this style has suddenly become insanely trendy, and I'm really tired of it. I think this particular release is tapping into that because it feels cheesy to me, whereas a lot of bands that do this stuff are either actually humorous in their sense of attitude, or they're serious and just enjoy rocking out. But this feels sort of novelty-esque to me, and at the end of the day the basic blues-based chord progressions and lead riffs are pretty run of the mill, so the songs just aren't powerful. There's definitely a noticeable AC/DC thing going on (nasally vocals and all, though this guy doesn't really sound like either AC/DC vocalist), especially in the slightly stronger (and more melodic) "Meltdown in Minneapolis", but this ain't "Back in Black" or "Who Made Who", you know what I mean? There's also a CD-Rom video of the band doing a live cover of "Nice Boys" by Rose Tattoo, but I tried it on three computers and none of 'em would play the damn thing. Oh well. The layout's pretty weak if you ask me. I get that it's made to look like a totally stripped down 45rpm single sleeve, but it's all text, including the inner booklet, with big, bold lettering. So in the end it does look rather plain, and no lyrics or anything like that are included either. This is just an easily forgettable EP. I truly can't understand the basis for pressing up seven minutes of material and a video onto CD. A full-length or more substantial EP might've shown more strengths from the band, because "Meltdown in Minneapolis" does grown on me, but pound for pound, as short as it is, this is a bland disc.
