Here's a very roughly recorded live demo from this Italian act, including some talking and applause between tracks and all that - so I guess it was recorded at a show. The sound isn't bad for the circumstances, there's a ton of low-end throb when they palm mute the guitars, and the mix is uneven, but it's tolerable aside from the vocal presence. The vocals are entirely too loud, drowning out everything else when they come in... both growls and screams with a little bit of reverb, possibly natural. I can't hear the bass really, but the guitars and drums sound okay when the vocals stop. Oddly enough they do almost as many cover songs as they do originals. Five covers (two each from Napalm Death and Cripple Bastards, one from Brutal Truth), and six originals. Shockingly enough I enjoy their originals even more than the cover songs, but I guess that's because you can't really improve upon classics from bands like Napalm Death and Brutal Truth. Profondo Rosso plays tight grind with a great mix of high speed tremolo picking and slower rhythms, even throwing in a little bit of dissonance from time to time. Some classic death metal influences are evident, but I'd tag them more as a grind band based on their uses of speed and their attitude. The lyrics are in Italian and English, so I can only talk about content in relation to three of the songs, but one is against racism, one is abut being classified as "freaks", and another is a story about someone getting throat cancer as a result of their job. The cassette is dubbed on a store bought blank and comes in a simple one-sided xerox sleeve that's all text. It's very bland and uninteresting visually, but I assume this was just a quick effort to get some music circulating, so I can sort of let it slide. This isn't bad, it's just too premature an effort. The band has strong songs and seems to be tight from a performance standpoint, but I'd much rather hear a studio recording out of 'em, because I think they could be quite good.
