Here's some very quirky "rock" that's more than a little bit hard to describe. The tracks seem to be driven by the vocals and the rhythm section, with somewhat random guitars or keyboards chiming in with less attention to the structure of the songs as a whole. Imagine a little bit of Fugazi gone garage rock with some 80's synth pop elements and a vocalist that sounds like At the Drive-In meets the Talking Heads or something. Yeah, the question "What the hell!?" certainly comes to mind. And that's a question I can't answer! The production is pretty good. The drums sound great, the bass sounds great, the guitars are clear, the mix is fair to all parties involved... I don't know. The packaging is quite bizarre in its minimal nature as well. The record is pressed on white vinyl and comes in a simple black and white sleeve with bright pink text and some simple stylistic images of buildings on it. That's it. No insert, no lyrics, no band contact information. Nothing. And keeping in mind the unusual music, song titles like "Red, Black, Khaki", "Carheartt Cologne", and "Family Emergency" offer little insight as to just what the hell is going on here!? I don't know what to say. The record is really short, so it's over in a flash and sort of leaves you confused. It's not so bad, but at the same time, it's not something that makes me want to listen to it repeatedly. I've heard worse, and I will give the band credit for being wacky without being annoying, and for doing something that is basically somewhat original (though not entirely)... but when it all comes down to it, it's just not exactly for me.
