Song of the Day: Peroxide Blonde, “Time & Time Again/Make You Mine” (Funeral Party, 2025)

Peroxide Blonde has hooked up with Funeral Party and returned with two new tracks of their spiralingly layered and challenging to classify "alternative rock," which surrounds its uniquely memorable hooks with a sophistication that would tend to be aligned with classic U.K. influences. However, the group continues to eschew any possibility of being directly compared to any particular artist or even genre. Sure, there's a certain textural jangle and swirls of effects, but to start tossing out adjectives like "dream-this" or "gaze-that" would be rather inaccurate.

Perhaps this latest release is what would have once been called a "double A-side"—"Time & Time Again" more sinewy and intriguing with its riffs/structure; "Make You Mine" a bit more direct in terms of catchiness. I certainly hope the current label alignment can build enough of a buzz to garner this band some of the attention they've deserved all along for their eccentrically creative approach.

I'm not seeing these tunes on Bandcamp yet, but tapes and shirts are available from Funeral Party; and you can of course stream through Spotify, Apple Music, and so on...
