I'm pretty picky when it comes to hip-hop, which I listen to pretty scarcely, and this isn't really the kind of thing I would generally be all that into, but I actually like it as I spin it more often. The main thing that I'm not into is the lyrics, 'cause they aren't really my thing. It's not just that they mainly deal with being badasses, getting girls, making money, partying, etc. - it's also that, to me, the rhymes aren't that witty and not that many lines really stand out at all. But at the same time it's not really like a poppy sort of hip-hop thing like a lot of rap is these days, it's sort of on the line. It's catchy, but it doesn't seem like... I don't know, basically it's not some goofy ass Nelly or Ludacris bullshit or anything like that is what I'm trying to say. I mean, "College Days" is definitely a party song, and it has a lot of somewhat poppy elements to it as far as the genre goes, but at the same time, even though I think the lyrics are stupid, the song is still fucking awesome because it's got a memorable flow, it's catchy, and the beats are fuckin' great. "Wild Boyz" is pretty interesting in its fusion of elements, built largely out of samples from Duran Duran's "The Wild Boys", fittingly enough, even lifting its chorus from said song. "Anyway" has some female singing going on and I'm not into that stuff. It's the worst song on the disc by far. I can almost never take that kind of stuff when I listen to rap, I don't know... it lessens the blow for me. But "Saro" is fucking awesome, not unlike "Wild Boyz" basing its beats around samples from "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel, but this track is obviously far darker and more melodic. Fucking awesome. This song makes the disc in my opinion. The music is so fucking good... I'm all over that. The CD is professionally packaged up in a jewel case and all that with a black and white booklet and traycard with crisp text and photos of D110 and a girl throughout. The tracklist on the back lists the song "One Ten Baby" twice, but inside the proper song titles are listed along with production and sample credits, etc. It looks nice overall. I'm not wild on the cover but the rest of it looks a bit better. I don't know, I'll be curious to hear the full-length that these guys are working on. I'm not sure if it will be my thing, but there's a ton of potential here. I love most of the music, it's just the lyrical content that needs tweaking in my relatively ignorant opinion on such matters.
