This long running Brazilian hardcore band is back with an insanely quick demo (Five songs in barely over four minutes!) displaying a much rawer, faster, and more refined direction than most of what they've done in the past. There are some early-80's hardcore influences floating around in there, but it's not melodic, there's no metal, and it's a lot faster than "old school" hardcore, so it's not in that vein either. Just check out the 18-second "Boicote", for example. This is straight up hardcore thrash with no frills. Short, fast chord progressions, a scarce few slower breaks, constant shouting vocals, you know the drill... and as usual No Violence does it well. The recording is pretty dry, but it's alright for a demo. I'd like to hear more bass in the mix to make up for the rawness of the guitars and the faintly distorted vocals, but the sound they've achieved here works with their delivery because it has a dated feel to it that matches up with the older styles of hardcore/punk they're drawing influences from. So I think that factor is a positive thing in this case. The CD-R comes in a slipcase with xeroxes pasted onto each side, and another xerox insert with the lyrics (in Portuguese). The artwork is sort of rough and pixilated. So it doesn't look as strong as the band's other work, but it gets the point across, as the imagery (Captain American in front of a "Fight Terror" banner, an upside down American flag over some skulls, an image of what looks like a Rambo video game or something, cowboys, etc.) tends to work well with the title of "Burn Hollywood Burn". I'm not sure of the content of the lyrics, but there's no doubt that the songs are as intelligent and pointed as ever, since that's No Violence's way of doing things. I can't believe this thing is only 4:15! This is quite possibly the shortest demo of all time! I can't wait to hear more...
