Review: Nanochrist “Mythelectronicon” CD

Dear Nanochrist, I hate to be such an asshole, but your band is absolutely fucking terrible to an inexcusable degree of complete and totally irreparable hopelessness. What the hell were you thinking putting this band together and wasting all of that time and effort recording this CD? And furthermore, assuming you've read any of the reviews on my site over the years, what the fuck made you think I might by some strange twist actually enjoy this garbage? Sorry, guys, but this is fucking worthless. Nearly an hour of electronic/industrial based music with some of the worst vocals I've ever heard. The singing is way the fuck out of tune and has this goofy sort of sarcastic ring to it, the aggressive screams are weak... ugh. Musically the synths really add nothing to the compositions and often sound as out of place as the vocals as far as note choice, while the drums are programmed and sound fairly tolerable considering that fact. The guitars and bass get lumped together behind the vocals and electronics, so the bass tends to get lost while the guitars are just a sloppy wall of oddly distorted power chords with that thin industrial bite going on. I'll pass. Imagine a truly horrific combination of a high school Faith No More cover band right after "Epic" blew up meets some sort of wacky Sesame Street take on Front Line Assembly or something. It's ugly, folks. It's ugly. And the layout? It's absolutely terrible. The effort was there, I'll give 'em that. They tried. But my god, the imagery sucks, it's all totally generic electronic diagrams and digital looking junk, the color scheme looks like a melted box of crayons because there's no consistency, the band photos serve no purpose, etc. It's just a mess, it's all over the place. The lyrics are fairly simplistic and do little for me, dealing with everything from political corruption and consumerism to the media, with a few more personal/explorative tracks, but the approach is just too forced and immature in my opinion. To say I'm stunned that this is the band's 4th album is a massive understatement. I can't fucking believe... no, no... I can't even fucking comprehend this band having three albums out prior to this piece of shit. Either these guys are both rich and tone deaf, or there are a lot of stupid people in Canada (where these dudes are from) that enjoy truly awful industrial music. Sorry, guys. I'm sure you're nice people, but I can't lie: This is one of the worst CD's I've ever received.
