Damien Moyal from As Friends Rust posted about Myth Carver (out of Dallas, TX) on Instagram a few weeks back and I was totally blown away by the clip, which displayed some of the absolute finest traditional heavy metal that I've heard in many years. Seriously, I don't know if I've been this excited about contemporary conventional metal since I heard Primal Fear's "Iron Fist in a Velvet Glove" 25 years ago!
Loaded with taut, top-shelf riffing that kinda borders on a slight touch of '80s hard rock, but leans toward a more powerful crunch that keeps things centered around high-quality melodic metal, there's an epic feel to the songwriting with plenty of slick dual guitar interplay and fist-raisingly anthemic choruses powered by aptly soaring vocals. I'm beyond out of touch with this scene, so I don't really know what labels are "owning" this corner of the "market" these days, but if this band doesn't get scooped up by a label of some note I'll be utterly shocked. This shit is absolutely crucial for any fan of classic and true heavy metal.
The four-song EP, Twist of Fate, is available straight from the band on CD or cassette (or digital, which you can also grab through Bandcamp). I'm not sure why they didn't tack on the two standalone singles from 2024 as bonus tracks for the physical copies, but... those are also out there on streaming, so find Myth Carver on Spotify, Apple Music, etc. if that's your avenue of consumption.
