Here we have two tracks of violent harsh noise from this Swedish unit, inspired by an obscure film called "Ascension", in which three women attempt to bring on the apocalypse by killing the murderer of god, who has thrust the world into a state of complete chaos. First up is the title track, which is around 10 minutes of vicious distortion that crunches along with a well balanced attack, occasionally letting layers of acerbic high-end cut through to the forefront, and a few rumbles of heavily manipulated vocals faintly seep in near the middle of the track. The vocals are pitch-shifted and heavily treated with effects, so you can really only make out a word here or there of the actual content, and it's unclear what's actually being said. "Purged World" follows on side B, taking a similar but thicker road, letting an almost muddy density and a bit of a streamlined spaciousness take control. Such an approach makes the listen a bit more fluid and atmospheric in this composition, which I definitely enjoy. There are certainly similarities between the tracks, but it all comes together nicely since the release is very focused and makes its point within a compact timeframe. The cassette comes in an oversized black and white sleeve stiffened up by thick black paper lining the inside. The visuals are a strange and unrecognizable sort of charred imagery along with a faint yet curious image taken from the film that inspired the release. Not bad at all. It's nice to see a harsh noise release that has some thought and concept behind it, as well as being able to achieve a dark atmospheric quality in the music, all without shedding any ferocity or flirting with outside influences. Good work. Short but sweet.
