Review: Lymphatic Phlegm “Pathogenesis Infest Phlegmsepsia” CD

How damn! 31 tracks of blistering drum machine gore grind from Brazil in around 36 minutes - with wacky song titles like "Medico-legal Analysis of the Ethanol Levels in Cadaveric Blood and Organic Liquids"! And this is much more well produced than what I've heard from the band on vinyl. It's still raw, and the drum machines are mixed too loud, but it's pretty thick, and you can make out most of the guitar riffs. I actually think the thick, thudding sound of the drum machine works pretty well most of the time too, because the vocal growls are just sick and totally garbled, so there's a lot of density there, and the guitars are heavy with a crisp, grim sheen of distortion. There's also some lightly distorted bass thickening up the mix as well. As far as the music, it's pretty much what you'd expect as far as unintelligible gargled vocal growls, blasting drumbeats, lots of speed, etc. But it's cool because the vocals totally blend in and act like another instrument, and a lot of the riffs are based more around traditional heavy metal and thrash, as well as the speed of classic textbook grind and death metal. They don't focus entirely on speed either. That is the driving factor, but there are a lot of slower riffs and rhythms as well, so they mix it up constantly. Most tracks run between 30 seconds and a minute, but a few more developed pieces run more than two minutes, such as "Fatal Pulmonary Embolism: Hystological Analysis". I think the original CD comes in a digipack that looks almost identical to the slipcase that houses this copy. The artwork is all as gruesome as ever, and the booklet is filled with autopsy photos and text regarding the procedure for post-mortem examinations. The lyrics are included, and they're specific medical jargon that looks oddly similar to the actual borrowed text. It looks pretty cool overall, and a sticker of the band logo and album title is included to boot. Good stuff. This is the best work I've heard from Lymphatic Phlegm yet. Fans of the style should definitely look into this. If the band continues to improve they'll definitely be among the finer acts of this style performing with a drum machine.
