Review: Leviathan “s/t” CD

God damnit, what is this shit? Why does this band exist, and why is what basically amounts to a weak demo recording pressed up onto a professional CD here? This is awful. Fucking awful. I knew it was going to suck because no band worth a shit would ever package their CD in a layout so immature and hideous (lots of lame Photoshop effects, silly logos, bad fonts, cheesy posed photos, the works), but god damn, I'm sick of listening to music that is so completely devoid of worth. I guess they're trying to be some sort of heavy Danzig band or something since the singing sometimes sounds sort of like a higher-pitched attempt at jocking Danzig's singing style, not to mention mimicking some of his lyrical styles (going so far as to rip off Misfits phrases like "death comes ripping"), and the guitar player is a big fan of unnecessary pinch harmonics... but holy crap, this is so boring. So, so boring. And the recording blows. The vocals are loud as shit, everything is pretty thin... it's a nightmare. I mean, I've heard worse recordings, but the mix is inexcusable. The songs are also too long and slow. I mean, I love Danzig, but this isn't even a tolerable attempt at being a shitty Danzig cover band or whatever. It really doesn't even sound that much like Danzig, it's just obvious that Glenn Danzig's bands were an influence here. The only good thing about this EP is that 20% of the profits are going to the West Memphis Three Defense Fund, but since I can't imagine more than a handful of people buying this CD, I guess that means a donation of $10 tops will be heading their way. Oh well. These guys are all huge and could beat the living shit out of me, but it's not them I have a problem with, it's their awful music that I never want to hear again. My ears need some time to recover here.
