After a brief ambient introduction track it's onto two monstrously long pieces (10+ minutes each) of plodding and destructive doom metal that tends to go with low vocal growls and tastefully slow tempos. At times there are some higher vocal screams or even a few whispered/spoken areas, and they do alter the tempos a bit so that everything's not literally the same pace (there are some incredibly slow moments and at times some "fast" portions as well), but for the most part it's a consistent delivery. The occasional melody line or clean break also helps add some spice to the music. This is actually really good stuff. It's sort of like a combination of older Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride, but with more typically brutal vocals and less "drama". There's a great moody atmosphere to the material, and the sound is strong for a demo as well. The only thing I'd change are the drums, which are far too rigid and cut through the crushing density of the guitars, bass (which is barely audible), and vocals. The guitars are heavy and the vocals sound killer. If the drums had a nice, hard-hitting density to go along with everything else it would sound fucking sweet. Visually this thing needs some work. The CD-R comes in a slim jewel case with a color xeroxed insert. The front cover is mostly black and white with an image of a faded face, and the back has some lyrics and other information alongside a tiny color band photo. There are some printer lines and stuff on the insert that make it a bit tacky, and I don't like the way all of the text has thick outlines, making the lyrics very hard to read. They should've just used white text over the black background and made it easy. I'm not sure what they're going for lyrically but they're not really catching my interest at all: "It is late and the grey is closing in, outside, and the scent is creeping in, silently flowing, awash, awaiting, breathing, boundless beauty unveils beneath an ageless wisdom, beneath her decaying skin, perfection revealed untouched..." This demo does need work, but with a slightly (and I do mean slightly) better recording and a more professional visual appearance this band could be incredible. As far as writing and feel this is some of the best true doom that I've heard in a long time. Watch out for this band.
