Here's some unusual experimental industrial/noise sort of stuff from London consisting largely of bass, drum machines, various percussion elements (metal banging, etc.), sampling, and vocals. There are actual song structures and dynamics, but it's still pretty strange material. I don't know what the hell I would use as a reference point. "Editorial" is harsher and more abrasive than many of the other tracks, with random distorted screaming, some distorted feedback noise, less percussion... it's just more of a freeform piece than the other compositions. The fact that it runs 11 minutes doesn't help matters, but that's another story. "Birdhead Revisited" is one of the calmer pieces, beginning with some tape manipulation and samples of birds or something like that, and then introducing some of the more interesting programmed beats of the disc. Being an instrumental, I actually enjoy this piece a bit more than most of the vocal driven tracks. "Eileen Street" provides a good balance of intense rhythmic repetition and abrasive vocal screams/swirls of feedback without going over the top. The last track is unlisted and consists of a highly distorted looped scream for about four-and-a-half minutes. If you can sit through that, I applaud you, because it just about made me want to smash my face in. I think the recording needs something... for a band that focuses so heavily on bass and percussion, their sound seems a bit thin and heavy on the higher end of the spectrum to me. There's some density in there, but not enough to really work. I don't know... The CD comes in a nice glossy digipack with color imagery of collaged, withered paper that looks like it all came from solvent packaging or something. It really looks nice, though. Some of the text is a bit plain, but it's okay. I think the phrase "It's okay." Sums up this entire CD pretty well. It's not bad, it's not great, it's just okay. I think there are some strengths here that need to be explored further, but this isn't something that calls out to me for repeated listening.
