Feral Nun, “Give Me a Reason,” from Demo Tape (Negate Everything, 2017)

A three-song demo from the UK's Feral Nun is amongst the first releases from Negate Everything—a brand new offshoot of the now-defunct Yamabushi Recordings that continues in said collective's original spirit.

Feral Nun's approach strikes me as a raw, loose, and improvisational-sounding take on gloomy, Samhain-ish post-punk that's intentionally crude and rugged but still succeeds in creating an interesting atmosphere of anger and anxiety that's memorable without attempting to be listener-friendly. Three songs in about 10 minutes isn't much to go on, but I like what I'm hearing, and am very curious to see how the group will develop in time...
