This band features members of Every Time I Die and Kid Gorgeous, but don't expect anything of that nature at all from this project... because this is upbeat emo/melodic hardcore/pop punk. No bones about it. It took me a few spins to get used to the vocals for some reason, they're not that high-pitched or whiny, but something about the singing style gave me a hard time at first, but I got over that relatively quickly. As I tend to say with this style of music I would definitely call for more vocal harmonies, because that would make the songs a shitload catchier and more memorable, but the writing works for me as it is, so that's just a little addendum that I'd love to hear. All of the songs are straightforward as far as their structures go, the running times hover right around three minutes, they kick some rockin' leads on occasion, etc. They've got a nice recording with thick bass, ample distortion on the guitars, a solid vocal sound, and fairly even mix too. Minor tweaking could be done, but I wouldn't mess with anything too heavily. This is yet another release from Uprising that visually raises the bar for the label, because the design is incredible on this thing. I love all of the high contrast imagery and bright colors, not to mention the great use of different typefaces. The lyrics are jam packed into the booklet amongst illustrated diagrams instructing you how to prevent someone from choking, and it's been a long time since I've seen a CD booklet that looked so complete. Now, the content of the lyrics is a different story, as the songs are personal and typical, and the lyrics are pretty boring, but at least everything looks killer. Not bad at all. I could really see this band kicking some serious ass in the future. And remember kids, you can't lose with vocal harmonies when it comes to the poppy-ish stuff! This is a good EP. I'll be curious to hear more.
