Here are three tracks from this French duo (one on bass/vocals, the other on guitar/vocals/drum programming) that unload tons of distortion, slow and sludgy tempos, and burly vocal growls. There are some weird effects at times (I think on the bass?) that sort of have an experimental feel, but they don't do enough with that to make it play a real role in their music. Honestly all three songs sound almost identical to one another, so... there's not a lot going on here. The drum programming is really simple, but the drum machine sounds great - the tones are thick, and everything else is so dense and rugged that I'd almost believe it was a live drummer at some points. So that's cool. They recorded this whole thing on a 4-track, so some more clarity wouldn't hurt, nor would a slightly more even mix... but for two guys and a 4-track this is heavy as hell and definitely better than average in the sound department. I don't mind the ruggedness all that much when it comes down to it. The cassette comes with a simple one-sided xerox cover, and though I can't really tell what's on the front, I think it's a corroded cityscape or something. All of the text is really plain, and this is obviously a D.I.Y. effort, but I'd like to see some more thought put into the visual realm as well. This works, but since the music isn't the most exciting thing I've ever heard, a stronger visual presence (or at least the inclusion of lyrics) would have been nice. I would assume from song titles like "Cult of Heresy", "Reality", and "Dog Days" that the lyrics are serious, but you never know. All I can say is that these guys could have something going if they would work with the tempos a bit or add in some sort of variety to the music, because this demo is too short and too lacking in diversity to grab any attention from this end.
