Des_Ark takes side A with "Send Jolly to Raleigh". It's basically indie rock stuff with ultra high-pitched singing, doubled for effect. Very strange. It sounds female, but I think it's a guy? I'm not sure, as the only credits for this track are "guitars & drums", literally, as I've typed it right there. Either way, I like it. There are some fucked up time signatures and the music uses a jangly clean tone that has some winding little quirky riffs as well as a few caustic chords. Interesting work. The recording is great, too. The drums sound excellent and everything else is clear and warm. The vocals can be hard to deal with when doubled since they get too loud, but I enjoy the unique originality of the singing voice. Bellafea follows where loose guitar parts wander over soft violin and driving percussive beats, and female singing lays an emotional framework that's not overdramatic at all. There's a real avant-garde sort of edge to this, it's very creative. The song was recorded by the same engineer/studio combo as Des_Ark's piece, so it sounds killer as well. The layout is nice and clean with blue and brown landscape photos and the bare minimum of text. Neither artist included lyrics, which is an odd decision as this label is usually rather political, so I have no idea what to make of the content here. I'd be interested to hear more from both of these bands, though. I'm not blown away, but everything is quite curious and I admire the originality of each side of the record, so that's cool. Nice work.
