Here's some totally laidback emo/indie rock that's chock full of layers of clean guitars, smooth singing vocals, moody songwriting... the works. It's pretty good. My only minor complaints right off the bat are that some of the songs are too long (in excess of six minutes) and tend to drag, and I'd like to hear things get a bit more catchy or on the barely faster side to provide some sort of a break from the constancy of the slow, quiet passages. "Masking Tape for the Broken Hearted" is definitely more along those lines, bringing in more distorted guitars, a bit more energy, etc. Balancing that aspect with the more somber influences would really hit on something. The recording is really fucking good. The guitars are all smooth and clear, the percussion is natural, the bass is dense and audible, and the vocals are bright and well placed in the mix. I definitely like the sound. If the writing was a bit more catchy or moving I would be all over this. I'm really not into the layout at all, though. The booklet and traycard are littered with images of various light bulbs hanging from wire, but then for some reason the front and back covers have photos of tree branches and forks hanging from fishing line or something!? I don't know, it just looks really bland to be blunt. The color scheme is solid throughout, that's it. I can't say I'm into the sappy personal lyrics either. They're not awful, it's just the kind of stuff you've seen a hundred times. "Still in my dreams I see remains of Marianne will they all draw your beauty like I have, Tonight now you're so bright, You dried up the rain you worked a miracle." Not bad. Not the best that it could be, but not bad. I wouldn't be surprised if this band really impressed me at some point down the line.
