Review: Cementhead “February Girls” CD

What the hell's up with all of the decent bands with fucking terrible lyrics going around? Musically this is pretty good. Emo/indie rock/pop with solid singing and vocal harmonies, good basslines, a great sense of melody, short and memorable songs, etc. Not bad at all. And then you see lines like, "I'll buy you lots of beer, smoke a cigarette in your ear. Don't wanna be your fable picnic table are you able?" What the hell is that crap? Seriously. What the hell is that crap? Why ruin perfectly good songs with such bullshit content? Have you nothing better to say than total nonsense? The recording is pretty good. The guitars are clear, the bass sounds perfect, the percussion is natural, and the vocals are well placed in the mix. I don't have any complaints per se. Some of the songs aren't as bright and lack punch, so there are some inconsistencies, but it's alright I guess. The presentation really isn't that bad, it looks okay, it just gives off a really goofy impression because of all the photos of water towers with smiley faces on 'em. I don't get that decision at all, but whatever. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a great CD by any means, but this band could probably be pretty damn good if they worked on their writing a bit and then just got their heads out of their asses and starting putting some effort into the lyrics and how they present their music. I can get into a handful of these songs, but I can't truly enjoy shit with lyrics that are so unbelievably stupid.
