Black Moon Halo offers up two tracks, "The Blackest Day" and "Behead & Behold". First up is "The Blackest Day", made up of quiet ambient drones and some thick ringing textures that resonate with a dense sense of careful melody. It sounds as though deep and indecipherably manipulated vocals play a role towards the end. "Behead & Behold" similar, but quieter and less dense at the start, gradually becoming more rhythmic, almost percussive in a sense, layering interactive loops and textures. It's really somewhat hypnotic in its use of repetition and lulling hums/drones. Very nice work. Ruin Everything's untitled piece is quieter and more minimal, with incredibly deep bass tones fading in and out with a little vibrato and some menacing ethereal tones and "clanking" type sounds way off in the distance. On occasion the volume swells a bit louder, or a bit quieter, for a period of time, but for the most part things reside in a very calm output level. The cassette comes in a gray envelope (around 4" x 6") with a landscape of a farm stamped onto the front. Inside is a two-sided black and white insert with contact information and such for each artist. Very nice. I think the levels could possibly be a bit louder here, especially for Ruin Everything, as I feel like details might be missed, but this is a great split tape. I'd love to hear more from each contributor, especially Black Moon Halo.
