Very nice. This is droning, melodic instrumental music from Canada that's generally calm and flowing and has an excellent sense of atmosphere. It sounds like vocals are used a little bit, but more as texture and additional tones, sort of like Sigur R?s, but even more subtle in most cases. The percussion is actually very faintly used as well, in many cases the basslines sort of carry the rhythm while repetitive guitar parts sail along with various effects at work, so they don't necessarily sound like guitars at all. In "Until You Call it Quits" some crackling, glitchy sounds sort of act like "percussive" elements, but it's not until the third track, "Pigment", that concrete drumbeats using a full kit actually show themselves. I could quite easily imagine this material being used as a film score, and in fact I've seen a few movies recently in which the music is a bit reminiscent of some of this work. The sound quality is great. Everything is mixed together well with perfect clarity and cohesiveness. If I could change anything I might want the bass to move an inch closer to the center to give it more presence, but that's really it. The recordings sort of change a bit from song to song, with different tones and mixes presenting themselves, and that's really cool. In a few brief instances things get too dry or sound a little plain, but for the most part it's excellent. The disc comes in a handsome digipack with nice photography and minimal use of text, so everything is stripped down and simplistic. This is really good. I could imagine this band becoming quite popular in a sense, at least on a certain level. A very strong EP that gets my recommendation for fans of this style.
