Weird. This is a hip-hop project from some dude who used to be in indie-ish bands like Mewithoutyou and The Operation. I don't know what to make of it. Parts I like and parts I absolutely hate. I really like the somber melodies that sometimes creep in, and the general approach of the vocal delivery is really good, but it sort of feels like it's trying to be "hard" or "aggressive" in some way, and I can't really swallow that. It's not like thugged out or anything by any means, but the style feels a little too faux angry to me, and since the lyrics were omitted I've got nothing to go on as far as the message. The beats aren't that bad but I tend to dislike the drum sounds used, especially when delay is involved, and there are also a lot of goofy synths and electronics that don't fit the atmosphere all that well. I don't know... And I have to say, I totally hate the band name. I thought this was going to be some sort of shitty new wave sort of retro crap based on the name, granted that angle does sort of seep into the unlisted track (a song that clashes with the vibe of the rest of the record), but the name doesn't really mirror what's going on here in the least. The packaging is all black and various shades of pink, with minimal text (song titles and such) and nothing but images of cityscapes. That's it. No lyrics, no band contact information or lineup, no recording credits, zilch. I don't know. This isn't half as bad as the first few lines of this review might lead one to believe. But it needs a decent amount of shaping up before it would be something that I'd actually choose to listen to.
