It's been a few years since the first demo from London act Achers (both songs from which have been re-recorded herein), and during that time they've fine-tuned their brand of angular emo/indie that (rightfully) draws comparisons to a spread of D.C. and San Diego influences, achieving that nice fusion of hectic and almost noisy textural nuances with a fair amount of fluid melody. Soft/loud dynamics, somber to assailing... it's very good.
The improved performances and sound quality should really find a happy home with any fan of this particular brand of '90s classics. The group's writing was already on point with the demo, but this time out everything hits harder and feels obviously elevated, in that way where I get the feeling that the band really ought to be on the move toward bigger and better things...
Limited edition cassettes of Bottom of the Hill—on "retro orange" or "silver glitter"—were available through Bandcamp (there might be like one left?), and a second pressing could be on the way. Otherwise, it'll be the download or streaming for the time being, so... Apple Music, Spotify, you know the drill...
