Song of the Day: Abrasion, “Intro/Coward's Display,” from Demonstration (2020)

I heard Abrasion through No Echo last week and must say that this eight-minute demo is one of the strongest picks I've heard over there in quite some time. I don't know much about the band other than the fact that they're from Southern California, but this is some scathing metalcore that fuses the tightness and groove of Merauder with the speed and ferocity of All Out War and the chunky breakdowns and gritty Slayer-esque riffs of the H8000 sound. Both the recording and songwriting are punchier than average, and the caustic lyrics and smoldering vocal delivery also help to boost the group's identity compared to a lot of what's out there these days.

I'm not sure why the download is priced at $100 on Bandcamp. Possibly because cassettes are due at some point via Programme Sounds? It's on Spotify, too, though. Whatever the case, I'm looking forward to hearing more from Abrasion. They're absolutely nailin' it thus far...
