Bandanos - s/t

Bandanos "s/t" CD
[self-released]

Hell yeah! This is ripping crossover hardcore/thrash from São Paulo, Brazil with really unique high-pitched vocal shouts and it totally kills! The songs are incredibly short and mix things up between fast hardcore chord progressions, darker metallic dirges with some dissonant melody, and some blatant retro thrash metal fury. You can't lose! From the plodding dirges and cascading bass runs of "Oscar de Melhor Ator" to the one-minute blast of speed that is "Te Amo, Porra!", this is a fucking winner! The recording is really raw, but it works out okay because the mix is pretty even. The bass is audible and often plays a large role, the vocals fall in with the music but still take the proper amount of precedence, the drums are warm, and the guitar are rugged but effective. I wouldn't really change that much. There's room for improvement but this works for what they're doing, and this is just a demo after all. The CD-R comes in a plain white sleeve with xeroxes pasted onto each side, and a xeroxed insert with the lyrics (in Portuguese) and some additional art. A lot of the artwork is borrowed from bands like Samhain, Septic Death, and Poison idea (lots of different skulls and skeletons), including the logo, done up in Samhain lettering, and that all looks cool to me! I'm not sure what the songs are about, as having tried to translate some of the lyrics I'm still somewhat unsure. My only complaint about this demo is that it's too damn short! Less than seven minutes!? Give me more! Keep an eye on this band for sure. I'd expect to hear big things from them in the future. Awesome. (7/10)
Running time - 6:35, Tracks: 4
[Notable tracks: Oscar de Melhor Ator, Enfia No Cu a Sua Teoria, and the other two as well...]
