Watchmaker "Kill.Fucking.Everyone." CD
[Willowtip]
Jesus, and I thought their last record was crazy... yet here they blow through 19 tracks in 29 minutes, each song rarely topping two minutes, faster, tighter, and more insanely chaotic than ever. It's an all out high speed attack, but as noisy as they can get the performance is always tight as hell, maniacal screaming/snarling vocals never letting up for a second. There's a little bit of discordant melody hidden away in there, but you'll be hard pressed to find it behind the sheer speed and intensity of the delivery. "Great Misleader" is slightly slower, taking the tempo down just enough for the riffs to yield a thrashy vibe rather than a grinding assault almost reminiscent of black metal sans the faux image, "Wallet Sized Dental Records" has one of the most obscene solos (loosely speaking) that I've ever heard - and some slightly toned down vocals repeatedly shouting "I will kill you!" The recording is still raw, but it's clearer and more consistent than last time, so while things can get very caustic, it works. It's crisp enough to get the point across without sounding like a jumbled mess. The drums sound great, the bass is back there (it could be a bit more prominent), the guitars form a shredding wall of distortion, and the vocals just slice through, barely peeking over the top. The artwork is fairly minimal and totally works, complete with sketchy illustrations using bleeding paint, fingerprints... and of course fucking skulls and fucking guns! Some chaotically handwritten lyrics are scrawled across the center panel with some smudged ink and in keeping with everything else, they're not fuckin' "peppy". "...with knife sheathed fully in still warm blood waving white flag and white teeth benevolent smile displayed towards the world prayer in public for god to bring peace..." or "...your diminutive income finances your pain your compliance agreement never complain..." should give you an idea. Insane music, great lyrics... how can you lose? I've gotta see this band live, I can't imagine it getting much crazier than this. I won't lie, this band isn't the easiest thing in the world to listen to, but they're fucking madmen, they know their shit, and they're great at what they do, so I have absolute respect for 'em. (7/10)
