Kontrovers - När Spelreglerna Ändras

Kontrovers "När Spelreglerna Ändras" CD
[Putrid Filth Conspiracy]

Fuck... yes... motherfucker... Hot damn, their last record was the shit, and this one rips like crazy! The recording is fucking huge and totally pristine! It's crystal clear, heavy as shit... completely natural, totally powerful. I'm fucking stunned. This sounds so amazing, it's fucking unbelievable. I don't even have a minute shred of a complaint about the recording, it's perfect. You won't find a hardcore/punk record of this nature with a recording better than this anywhere out there. There's no way. As far as the songwriting, you'll be floored by burly chord progressions with that Swedish crust sort of sound, a good amount of dissonant melody, some shredding slower passages, and fucking raging vocals - just over the top screaming. "Med Ryggen Mot Väggen" starts out slower with some melodic leads and then blows into some blistering speed with blasting chord progressions and even some tremolo picking, "Besviken På Allt" is more melodic overall (not shedding the heaviness) but has some great vocal tradeoffs and more of a punk vibe, and the instrumental "..." is full of classic Charles Manson samples that they pull off surprisingly well. Closer "Jag Och Kärleken" is the slowest and most metallic of the tracks, dropping plenty of chugging power chords for nearly six minutes - triple the average length of the other tracks. They've got a totally tight performance here too, very impressive. This is just absolutely insanely high-energy material here. So fucking great... The layout's not bad. The cover has a dark, dirty brown painting of warped looking pawns on a chessboard, and inside are some black and white textures with handwritten lyrics and song explanations. 95% of the lyrics are in Swedish with English explanations, and a few tracks are totally in English. The content is more positive than one might expect, tending to deal with living life to the fullest, the value of communication, being yourself despite what others might think, and a few tracks being critical of the worldwide punk movement for seemingly running in circles, etc. This is the best Swedish hardcore/punk record I've heard in a long time. This puts the last Skitsystem record to absolute shame. I can't think of one band of this nature that can touch the intensity and ferocity of this record. Fucking mandatory! I can't say anything more, this shit is too good. Kontrovers are now the reigning kings of Swedish hardcore. Just fucking get this and shut your face. (10/10)
Running time - 31:09, Tracks: 12
[Notable tracks: Med Ryggen Mot Väggen, Besviken På Allt, ..., In it for What, and all of the others...]
