Foutredieu!!! - Recycled

Foutredieu!!! "Recycled" CS
[RRRecords]

Surprisingly enough, simply because this is somewhat of a "novelty" release, this is the most consistent and mature material I've heard from Foutredieu!!! to date. Lots of feedback and reverb, some melodic but highly fucked with piano/classical music samples (I think?) at times... but usually it's just this moaning sort of twisted feedback that's fairly deep and resonant with thick, crackling distortion subtly affecting it. The cassette offers up a great mix of ambience and tactful harsh noise ("harsh" used loosely there), and I really like the obscure melody that's underneath everything, gently flowing to the surface on random occasions. This is one of those rare recordings that makes me somewhat curious as to what the source sounds are, because it sounds like there's a lot going on that can't be deciphered - intentionally. If you don't know the drill with this series of cassettes from RRRecords, the material is dubbed over a pre-existing cassette and packaged in its sleeve with tape across cover and the artist's name written in marker down the side spine. This one's one a George Jones tape in the sleeve for some Solid Gold sampler/compilation or whatever, from way back in 1982. Very nice. Coincidentally my individual copy is rather brief, and I think that helps everything flow all the better, as it doesn't have enough time to drag on, and the repetition remains hypnotic and effective. Some of the other copies may perhaps run a bit long, but this is nice. I certainly hope this is a sign for the future of Foutredieu!!! material to come... (6/10)
