The Disease - Dyslexic Experts in Reverse Psychology

The Disease "Dyslexic Experts in Reverse Psychology" CD
[Alone]

Argh, motherfucker... okay, fucking bands like this should not exist. I'm not saying they shouldn't record music or that they shouldn't be signed. No, that's another problem in and of itself. I'm going so far as to say that bands like this should not... fucking... exist. I seriously can't fathom someone listening to this and saying, "Hey, this is cool." Much less, "Damn, I like this, I want to pay to put this out!" It's obnoxious, noisy, distorted, discordant "screamo" hardcore with fucking Casio beats all over the place. Distorted "rock 'n' roll" screaming vocals, silly ass Casio drum programming that sounds like it could be on a "Sesame Street" soundtrack, caustic riffing and disjointed arrangements... all that crap. They do use live drumming as well, but either way, they're always fucking things up with the god damn keyboard. Three of these tracks were originally released on a split 7" with Racebannon, which means that this atrocious CD isn't the first time the mistake of releasing this band's material has been made... and that's a shame. I'm not that big on the recording either. It's not horrible, and the live drums tend to sound really good, but it needs something more. I love the distorted bass tone, but as soon as guitars and vocals kick in that falls way off to the background. I guess it just needs more control and more density, the bass needs to play as large a role as the guitar parts. The layout's not bad. It's minimal, but not bad. There are lots of layers of orange textures and shapes, with an outline of a band photo, and inside is a photo of an amp with a lot of blank white space and some recording information, and that's all she wrote. No lyrics, etc. I'm sure the lyrical content must be impeccable, though (sarcasm, people). Overused "Gummo" references used as song titles like "I Want a Moustache, Damn It" suggest a lack of creativity, but whatever. There are a few brief moments where these cats toss the keyboards and sound like a band, and those brief moments are tolerable, but the vast majority of this disc is utter shit and I truly hope I never have to listen to this band again. Sorry, this isn't for me. (1/10)
Running time - 22:17, Tracks: 10
[Notable tracks: one of the Casio beats sounds like it could've been in an old New Edition song, which is funny, but this stuff all blows...]
