[Charito]

Diagram: A starts off this lengthy split with one long track (almost 30 minutes) called simply "Untitled 00". Beginning with sparse, random noises, things eventually erupt into minimal, raw harsh noise. It's fairly good for what it is, but it gets boring after five or six minutes... and continues on for far, far longer. There are a few breaks of silence, or quieter freezes on quick loops, as well as some decidedly "ambient" passages (the end of the track is excellent), but for the most part it's pretty typical, simplistic harsh noise, that need not run for a half-hour. Industria Masoquista offers up seven untitled tracks under the heading of "Adictos al Remordimiento". The material is very rough, atmospheric harsh noise, that I would enjoy a lot more were the recording not so muddy. It's fairly strong as is, using some loops, abrasive sweeping distortion, crunchy low-end, etc. There's just not enough brightness or detail to the mix. I'm not sure why the tracks are broken up the way they are, as all of the individual pieces run together, and there's only one title for the entire group... go figure. A weird sort of "crunching" texture sort of looms above everything, almost like crackling on a vinyl record... but thicker... it's strange, mildly interesting, but also somewhat distracting. For some odd reason the CD-R is defective and won't play past the fifth Industria Masoquista track, which is a shame, but that's why CD-R's can be annoying. The disc comes in a simple D.I.Y. sleeve (hand-numbered of 60 copies) that's all black and white with some xeroxes pasted onto black matte paper. It looks crude, but consistent, and it works. I'm not bothered by the roughness at all as the artwork and text are fairly well handled in the context of the release. Defects aside, this isn't such a bad release, it's just boring. Were it an Industria Masoquista EP with a brighter, clearer sound, I think it would be a better effort. (4/10)
