Boxed In "s/t" 7"
[Busted Heads]
Whew! This is ripping hardcore from the UK (Featuring ex-members of Ebola, Sawn Off, Oi Polloi, Minute Manifesto, Status Quo, and Embittered - is that enough for you!?) with no bullshit. Throaty vocal yells, powerful rhythms, a good mix of tempos generally leaning towards speed... yeah, this shit is pissed. "Rocket Science" introduces some dissonance that lends a darker feel, definitely making for a standout, but they don't stray from their initiatives at all, make no mistake. The final two tracks run together and are both covers of the Finnish hardcore band Mellakka, "Ei" and "Oikeus Valita", and both songs fucking rip, no doubt. Present is a suitably raw recording with a good dose of distortion on the guitars, a solid bass presence, warm percussion, and a damn strong vocal performance. There is a noisy sheen on the high-end, but the performance is dead fucking tight, so it makes little difference. The record comes in a red and black sleeve, double sided, with high contrast imagery, all of the lyrics, and brief song descriptions. "Who's hot? Who's not? Who's the flavor this month? Who's the jerk getting jerked? It's time to see who's who. In five years you'll all be gone, yet we'll still be here. This is more than a passing phase. Your talk of 'rebellion years', which consists of going to gigs and buying records and being oh so crazy, it means nothing. Passivity = compliance." That's all you need right there. Well worth tracking down. (7/10)
