Here's a reissue of this out of print full-length that was originally released four years ago or so by Man's Ruin. I think I like this more than the band's most recent outing, as it's a bit more diverse. And the recording is really heavy, which accentuates some of the darker and doomier rhythms. There's still a lot of distortion going on, and they have that southern twang to a good number of their guitar parts, but it's more menacing in some way, and I really like that. The songs range from less than two minutes two more than six, and there's a lot going on. Faster/shorter tracks like "Set in Cinders" have a hardcore/punk edge at times, the quick instrumental "Taint and Abandon" shows great use of careful melody before crashing into the painfully abrasive distortion and feedback drenching the entirety of "Inside My Spine", and "Damaged IV" crawls along at a destructive pace and just crushes everything. The recording is fucking great. The nasty, screaming vocals have a nice level of distortion over 'em, the drums are plenty resonant, the guitars have a ton of thick texture, and the bass is solid enough to hold its own amidst all of the dense layers of gritty sound. Certain songs have a dirtier edge, but it always works in the band's favor. I don't have any gripes. The all new layout looks awesome, too. The outer packaging has a super high gloss coating on it, and the booklet is chock full of brightly colored close-up photos with tiny little compact text. No lyrics are included or anything like that, they keep it pretty minimal and mysterious as always. Good stuff. Fans of the band who missed this the first time around should definitely look into it now that it's readily available again. (7/10)
