A Fail Association "Slow | Turnings" CS
[Dada Drumming]
"Give, Part One" takes the first side of this brief cassette with chaotic harsh noise that has a fairly minimal slant to it as far as layering goes, quickly bouncing back and forth from windy low-end thickness to brighter crunches of treble. It's pretty rugged but I don't feel like anything is losing its character. I actually quite enjoy this style of thick recording for harsh noise, as it's got a certain aesthetic to it that I admire. "Live @ Super Happy Funland, 12.31.03" follows on the other side, recorded at the same show as the Inhalant/Priest in Shit "Live" cassette (also recently released by Dada Drumming), and actually seems to have a slightly crisper, clearer sound. Stylistically it's quite similar in its minimal layering and changeovers from thicker and more corrosive distortion to higher-end feedback wails. It is, however, incredibly short! It ends in a flash before you know it and even includes a little bit of post-performance noise in the distance. The cassette comes in a nice little package with minimal printing on red vellum paper that's slightly transparent. That's about all there is to it, but it's the little touches like paper finish and such that really can make a difference. Nicely done. A very short, very focused blast of noise, which works effectively. (7/10)
