Conspiracy A.D. "Humanity = Destruction ...The End is Near" CD
[Crash]
I'm not sure what I'd call this. Weird, groovy metal from Italy that's equal parts Machine Head and bad death metal, maybe? I don't know. It's really boring and I don't like it, which I expected because 99% of the shit that this label releases is garbage, but this is actually better than a lot of the things this label puts out, even though it's still no good. Expect lots of chunky chord progressions with that overproduced, detuned guitar tone, moderate paces with lots of faster blasts, growling vocals with a little bit of distortion as well as some spoken passages, a few minor hints at what might be called industrial undercurrents. I don't know, it's really bland. On rare occasion they'll kick out a good thrash run or a slower heavy rhythm, but something about this is completely devoid of any feeling or emotion whatsoever. It's like mildly irritating background music. It does nothing for me at all. The recording is okay, it's loud and thick and has some punch, but some of the drums have some rigidity problems, the guitar and bass sort of mesh in a muddy wall of nondescript chunk, and I find the vocals to be sort of weak... trying too hard to be extreme. I could easily live with this sound if the songs were good, though. The layout... well, parts are alright and, as is always the case with this record label, parts are total crap. Sadly it's the inner pages here that look better, with fairly clean and simple text over background textures, some posed band photos kept mildly tolerable with some interesting textures and spatters around them, etc. The front and back covers are horrible, though. Shitty colors, goofy collaged imagery (very typical - graveyards, skulls, a gun-toting figure in a gasmask, lightning in the sky), bland text... and the lyrics are no good either. I stand by my statement that Crash Music needs to either go out of business or start saving their money and signing bands that don't stink up the joint. (3/10)
