Chaosbreed "Unleashed Carnage" CD
[Crash]
Who the hell calls the shots for this label, and how the fuck do they stay in business releasing load of shit after load of shit, year after year? God damn. This Finnish band opens their disc with the all too generically titled intro "Prelude to Death" (How many records have had that as the name of their intro?) and after such a relatively smoothly produced affair they kick into four competent tracks of total Entombed worship that would be pretty good were it not for the shitty recording or weak indecipherable vocals. All of the riffs are basically throwaways straight out of the "Left Hand Path" school of playing, down to the tempo and note choice, everything. But the guitar tone is really gritty and dirty, the bass is inaudible, the drums are thin and just don't fit, and the vocals sort of suck. Kick in some crunch, add warmer low-end, get a new vocalist, and I'd think this was a great unoriginal EP. But as it stands it's a weak, generic EP that really has little to offer other than a few strong riffs that fall flat on their faces thanks to the lacking recording. The layout is terrible, as is often the case from this label. The imagery is all a bunch of photographs of skulls, but it's not very crisp and the colors seem faded. I like that they only used one solid font throughout the packaging but the text is enormous on the traycard, etc. It's just not that interesting to look at. The lyrics are lame as well, covering the usual topics of death, destruction, and warfare, but in a far more uninteresting manner than even the usual nonsense: "Seize the day, End your life, Abandon hope, And your life..." Great. Hey, "life" rhymes with "life", who would've thought!? Crappy lyrics, crappy recording, no creativity... yep, I would expect nothing less from a Crash Music release. Someone put this label to rest already. Shit, why waste money on all these shitty bands when you could just save it all up and spend it all on one good record instead? (4/10)
