Blacklisted - Our Youth is Wasted

Blacklisted "Our Youth is Wasted" CD
[Stillborn/Walk All Night]

Damn, this is some pissed off, heavy hardcore with really uniquely venomous vocal screams and a slightly raw, crunchy edge. It's fairly straightforward. It's got a little bit of a NYHC vibe, it's not metal, there are some faster chord progressions with that old school sort of drive, etc. But the songs are fucking great. None more than two or three minutes, plenty of attitude... just like it should be. "That Ain't Real Much" has a major breakdown right in the middle and it's just a fucking monster... I'm all over that shit. Perfect. I wish the recording was a little bit cleaner, but I can definitely live with it. I think the fact that it has a sort of a rugged side is actually very cool, I just think there's something a little strange with the guitar tone... maybe that it's not quite warm enough or something. But I'd leave the vocals and the bass alone for sure. I like the layout for the most part because it's really simple and has a nice, minimal look to it. Most of the text is handwritten, the photos are tasteful, it's all printed on matte paper, etc. My only complaint is that the handwriting is hard as shit to read, so I can't really make out the lyrics, and in all truth I can't even read a few of the song titles either. Yet another band keeping good, straight up hardcore alive and in your face with no bullshit. It's not necessarily original, but they definitely have their own take on it, and I damn sure look forward to hearing more. That's all there is to it. Good fuckin' stuff. (7/10)
