Pro-Pain "Fistful of Hate" CD
[Candlelight]
In a time when I was young and I considered Biohazard to be a "great band", I liked the first Pro-Pain record for a good six months or so before I decided that it was too goofy and I sold it. Get it? When I was a kid, I actually thought Pro-Pain was cheesy compared to Biohazard. Do the math, folks. I can't help but ask myself, "How is it possible that this band is still around, and why are so many different, often relatively quality labels giving them further chances to waste resources by putting out new records?" And yes, that being said, this record is a fucking joke. It's groovy metallic "hardcore" that borders on the nu-metally chunk-chunka-chunk-chunkity kind of thing at times, with strained vocals, some out of place leads, immature lyrics, the works. Gary Meskill further ruins his legacy with The Crumbsuckers with another childish and unnecessary Pro-Pain record that has little to offer. I mean, you tell me what the fuck the keyboard horns and "catchy" attempt at a chorus in "Godpseed" are all about? Get that shit out of my face, man. Terrible. The recording is tolerable but stale. There's no bass guitar presence in the mix, the guitar tone is overproduced and has a digital sort of sheen to it, the drums are cold and rigid, etc. Were the songs good I could swallow the sound with little problem, but here it only accentuates the overall lameness of this release. I'm not into the layout. The booklet looks fairly strong but the traycard doesn't match up in the least, the imagery is generic, and the lyrics are a joke. Every song uses tons of forced rhyming and that just cheapens things even more. "I stick like meat to bone, right down to the deal. None short of a cut above the rest, oh yes, I'm for real..." That's a real gem, ain't it? Bottomline: This record need not exist. Shame on Candlelight for disgracing their name with it. (2/10)
