Nowhere "The Shit We Live" 3
[NCC]

Here's a quick EP of fairly harsh experimental noise from this project that's new to me. "I Expected Nothing (I Got Everything I Expected)" starts out with very quiet ambient drones and opens up into rather loud, thick noise about four minutes in. It definitely gets harsh, but it's not a total wall of distortion or anything, but more sort of like flanged wind tones and some oppressive overloaded hums and such, with bits of feedback and distortion. I liked the minimal ambience a lot more, as the harsh textures are a little rugged and just lack feeling to me. "Soon it Will All Be Over" starts out at a mid-grade harsh level with less layering and a more consistent sort of bite to it, and I think that works more effectively. Some dirty samples kick in at some point that sound like a woman talking about her penchant for being abused and mistreated or something along those lines. The title track closes on a similar, though slightly harsher and more one-sided level, with no samples, and just a consistent blend of moderately aggressive distorted tones. The disc comes in a 3" slim jewel case with a simple black and white insert printed from a high-end color printer. There are some printer streaks and some of the text is slightly pixilated, but it tends to look okay. Aside from a few images and the tracklist there are a few brief lines of text that sort of convey the mood of this material: "Humanity is destined to destroy, and recreate itself in an endless cycle of filth." Not bad. I've heard far better, and elements of this disc are quite boring, but I think the strengths do slightly outweigh the weaknesses. (6/10)
