Butcher ABC - Butchered at Birth Day

Butcher ABC "Butchered at Birth Day" CD
[Obliteration]

Finally a gore grind band that's actually funny - and leave it to Japan to be the source. The band's members are named Analtoshit, Barbequeen, Chemi-Kill, and K; they play axe grind and vomit, bolt throw and slaughter, chainsaw, and killing technology; they have song titles like "Butchered at Birth Day"; they dress up like Leatherface and such; the artwork shows Jack Daniel's and Corona bottles around a birthday cake being cut by a chainsaw surrounded by blood and guts... oh yeah. The first track, "Hell Awake", is an intro that sounds not unlike the intro to "Hell Awaits" with plenty of divebombs and noises alongside growling and whatnot, but then it's straight into four quick tracks of gore grind that have a different feel going on musically. There are some faster chord progressions, and of course the vocals range from guttural growls to midrange sneers, but there are a lot of slower and almost Blood Duster-ish riffs going on at times, having a weird and subtle rock vibe amidst it all. The recording is uneven, but I can take it. I wish there was more low-end, and the vocals can sometimes overpower or cloud the music a little, but the guitar tone is basically solid, and the drums aren't half bad. What else is there to say? It's five tracks in a mere 13 minutes! I'm not blown away, but their attitude kicks ass, and I'd be interested in hearing more as a result of that. (6/10)
