Zweizz "Black Necrotic Obfuscation" 7"
[Vendlus]
Glitchy and rhythmic electronic noise from Norway with many layers of sound varying from crisp and clear to muddy and muffled. For the most part it's quite chaotic and random, though definitely structured in pace and flow, despite being kind of all over the place. Expect anything from chopped up beats and churning electric guitar maipulations to melodic synths or total electronic noise. "Birth, Sex, Death" is much more musical and electronic in atmosphere as opposed to the title track, making for a better composition as a whole, though there's nothing that really grabs me. The vocals are too loud and extremely annoying in the title track, whereas in "Birth, Sex, Death" the whispered/spoken passages are much more effective. The record is numbered of 256 copies on clear red vinyl and comes in a great looking color sleeve with an odd layout that has some funky 70's styled lettering and brightly colored images of meat slapped around on decorative paper or something. I like the packaging, and the title of the 7" is kind of hilarious on some level (in a good way), but the music is honestly bland to me. It's certainly unusual work, and something different from the norm even for experimental styles, but I don't feel like it's really there yet... there's something missing. (5/10)
